Chat Bot Update – Calling For Students!

On Wednesday the 31stMay a small group worked on planning out the Chat Bot project. Over the course of the day Richard and Bec from Microsoft shared some great examples of Chat Bots and where they are used. The emergence of Chat Bots is related to one of the three big trends in technology being; big data, cloud services and AI.

Bots represent a very visible form of AI and can be used to manage multiple tasks such as Q & A, timetabling and even ordering pizza. Bots also present the emergence of technologies that utilise natural language, making them easier to access by humans. However, they do require a new understanding of the social and ethical technology in their application.

The students from partner schools in both the Banyule-Nillumbik and Whittlesea Tech schools will have the opportunity to create a Q & A Chat bot for their Tech School. This bot will reside on each Tech School’s website and provide a Q & A function for visitors.

This opportunity will involve two workshop sessions (10th and 15th Aug) and where the students will explore the technical aspects of creating and training the Bot, but more importantly understanding the way in which to develop technologies that are socially and ethically appropriate. This is an exciting opportunity for students and the nomination form for students can be downloaded here and due back by the 29th June.
