Human-Animal Interactions

With support from the City of Whittlesea Council and Victoria University

Term: 1-4

Program Type: Remote Learning Program (Design Challenge)

Duration: Approx. 10 hours

Year Level: 7-12

Human interaction with wildlife, livestock and pets form an important part of our daily lives. Through investigating different human-animal interactions, this design challenge asks students to design an innovative product that improves human and animal wellbeing and is underpinned by scientific research or lived experience.

Over the course of this program, students investigate existing innovations, delve into the ethics of product design, and learn about exciting relevant careers before deconstructing an interaction they’ve encountered to consider the perspective of their users – animals. This encounter is presented as a storyboard or short-film narration and is a fun, interactive activity that can easily be completed as homework.

As students are guided through the suite of online resources and our Tech School Innovation Process, they will have the opportunity to prototype their great product ideas using a range of low-tech and high-tech prototyping techniques. This program culminates in a Sharktank-esque pitching session, allowing students to develop their visual and verbal communications skills.

Note: Although this program is a remote offering, partner school teachers have the option to book their class into our Online Tech Skill-Up sessions that are facilitated by Tech School staff. Get in touch for more information.
